OUR STORY

Cape Christian was born on April 19, 1987. In May 1986, through the support of the Mennonite Church, Dennis and Linda Gingerich teamed up with Tony and Ada Hostetler and Rod and Virginia Troyer with a vision of building a contemporary church in Cape Coral with a non-denominational flavor that would reach unchurched people. The core group grew to 35 by its Easter 1987 launch, and 97 were in attendance that day at Pelican Elementary School. In August 1993, the congregation moved its worship location to the larger Gulf Middle School.

In 1989, the church began a faith-filled venture of purchasing 48 individually owned residential building sites on Chiquita Boulevard just off the planned Veterans Parkway. The 48th property was purchased in January of 1999. Phase 1, a 17,000 square foot multi-use facility, was completed at the end of 2000. Additional modular classroom space has been added two additional times to accommodate a growing children and student ministry. Phase 2 construction was completed in mid-2009, providing 22,000 more square feet of much-needed children’s and youth ministry space, a state-of-the-art pre-school, and office space for our staff.

Cape Christian has been blessed with continued growth throughout its history. Currently, over 1,500 people attend weekend worship celebrations at this local expression of God's family. Cape Christian is also hard at work building Fellowship Park, an over 100,000-square-foot park, complete with a sound stage, a fountain, and playgrounds, for the city of Cape Coral. God has brought together an incredibly talented and gifted group of people from all walks of life to make Cape Christian, and Cape Christian is incredibly blessed to be making a difference in the lives of people for now and into eternity.
